Who Was Tommy Ramone?
Who was Tommy Ramone? Thomas Erdelyi was born in Hungry in 1949. Tommy was born into a family whom had just escaped the holocast being hidden by neighbors from the Nazi's. He had moved to New York at four years old. Growing up in Forest Hill, Tommy fell in love with music young. He played in the Tangerine Puppets, while in high school. In 1970, Erdelyi was an assistant engineer for the production of the Jimi Hendrix album Band of Gypsys. As he continued to love music, and work in the field he was asked to manage the Ramones. Soon after they realized that Joey was a better singer, and he could not keep up on drums. Tommy began playing drums for the band.
From 1974 until 1978 Tommy Ramone played the drums for the band, helping both play and create the first three albums. Tommy in later years would state that the Ramones music was inspired by the New York Doll's another amazing band from the 70's. Tommy went on to produce the bands fourth and eith album, but was replaced by Markey Ramone. On October 8, 2004, he played as a Ramone once again, when he joined CJ Ramone, Daniel Rey, and Clem Burke during the "Ramones Beat Down On Cancer" concert.
In 2002 Tommy was inducted in to the rock and roll hall of fame. Spending most of his life in the recording studio producing music, this was an honor for Tommy.
Tommy went on to produce music, opening his own company and living a happy life. As a musician and a person Tommy made some major accomplishments in his life. Tommy passed away earlier this year of cancer in his home, but will always be remembered as a rock and roll legend.
